KOTA KINABALU: The inaugural Borneo Hospitality Challenge (BHC) 2020 will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre on May 30-31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This competition aims to\nmake the Borneo Island as one of the world-class culinary venue as invitation has\nbeen sent out to international participants and at the same time, international\njudges will also be invited to do the judging process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to divert the international level hospitality challenge to the Borneo Island as all this while most of the prestigious events in Malaysia are held in the peninsula,\u201d organising chairman Dion Jee said (pic)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the annual\ncompetition will begin in Sabah this year, and next year, it will be Sarawak\nturn and thereafter Kalimantan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese three territories\nwill take turn to host the event on a rotation basis as we will be inviting\ninternational chefs to judge the event,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the competition,\nthey want to offer an enriching experience for all, to create and showcase as\nwell as strengthen their common faith and commitment through sharing talents,\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are 20 categories\nto be competed and there are for cold display, patisserie, artistic and hot\ncooking, food and beverage skill for individual as well as team challenge for\nprofessional and junior (students aged 16-25).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top three winners of\neach category will respectively receive prize money of USD1,000; USD500 and\nUSD200 as well as medals and certificates issued by the International Food and\nBeverage Association (IFBA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entry fees are\nRM150, RM200 and 500 depending on the categories (individual or team).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition is open\nto any individuals including homemakers so long they adhere to the rules and\nregulations of the competition, he said, adding that the event will start from\n7am to 9pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To date, about 250\ncompetitors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines and Thailand has\nconfirmed coming. There will be exhibition booths for the suppliers to promote\ntheir products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInitially we have about\n500 competitors representing 15 countries but now reduced to five due to the\nCovid-19 outbreak. We will be inviting 40 foreign and seven local judges to do\nthe judging process,\u201d Dion said.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-day competition\nis organised by the Borneo Culinary Association Sabah and Sarawak and endorsed\nby the Malaysian Food and Beverage Executive Association, and IFBA. It is\nsupported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment. -HS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
