And the over supply of the roots has motivated\nthem to innovate and produced their own ginger-based by-products to be sold to\ntourists and locals alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Gin1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-151\" width=\"316\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Gin1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Gin1-243x300.jpg 243w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Gin1-768x948.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 316px) 100vw, 316px\" \/><figcaption>Tending the ginger farm<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe villagers here are quite innovative and each\nfamily has created their own unique signature products, which they marketed in\nTambunan and some to Peninsular Malaysia,\u201d Biana said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ginger-based by products has been constantly\nimproved over the years and sells at the bazaar grounds. It is also promoted at\nthe exhibition fairs, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had started selling the ginger products between\n2014 and 2015. All the villagers here are ginger growers and on average, each\nof them owns at least half to three acres of land,\u201d Biana said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She continued: \u201cThe village has also earned the\nmoniker as the \u2018Ginger Group\u2019 since they are known as the production hub of\nginger in Tambunan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to her, the ginger farmers homemade\nproducts were created through their own creativity through trials and errors. The\nfarmers never attend proper training as the abundance of ginger has spurred\nthem to diversify their activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe continue to improve our products from time to\ntime based on the feedback from the consumers. Nowadays, we attended courses organised\nby MARDI (Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe villagers are modernising now as they also using\nWhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook to market their products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd marketing strategy via the social media has\nattracted some buyers from the peninsula who are curious to try our local-made\nproducts which are made from 100 per cent pure ginger,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also received bulk orders from companies who\nbuy the roots to make ginger honey juice and soap, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors who wants to experience the ginger farming\nactivities can stay overnight at their homestay so that they can follow the whole\nprogramme, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ginger planting season usually starts from\nJanuary to April. Two variants of ginger -old and young are grow in the\nvillage. They can order directly from\nthe unassuming farmers. They can buy as many as they want with no uncertain amount\nbut depends on yields available,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On average, each acre can produce up to 600 kg of ginger roots.
