{"id":13,"date":"2020-02-15T09:30:25","date_gmt":"2020-02-15T09:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=13"},"modified":"2020-02-16T18:05:28","modified_gmt":"2020-02-16T18:05:28","slug":"rice-field-of-kb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=13","title":{"rendered":"Rice fields of KB"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KOTA BELUD has the\nlargest acreages of paddy fields in Sabah, making them the state\u2019s main\nrice-producing district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And one can\nmarvel at the magnificent paddy field views with Mount Kinabalu at the backdrop\nwhile on the way to Kampung Tempasuk Satu, off Jalan Sangkir Dua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quaint\nvillage is located three kilometres away from Kota Belud town. It is easily\naccessible by vehicles as the road leading there is tarred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The whole stretch\nof the road can be seen painted with beautiful green paddy fields, and it will\nturn into a stunning yellowish golden scene when the paddies begins to ripe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And right\nbefore the picturesque landscape is Karanahan View, meaning paddy field view\nwhen translated into English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Karanahan View\nis a 1.5-acre recreation centre and it was launched in 31 August 2019 to celebrate\nthe National Day. It is open to visitors from 7am to 6.30pm daily with a\nminimal entry fees for both adults and children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is an ideal\nplace for relaxation among friends and loved ones as they can spend some\nquality time together to enjoy the laidback village lifestyle, its owner,\nMichael Asik said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Michael who\nworks at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department said the recreation centre was\ndeveloped from his family land as it is sited strategically around the paddy\nfields with Mount Kinabalu in the perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recreation\ncentre offers fun water related activities for the visitors such as paddle\nboat, water roller, floating boat, water ball and fishing at the man-made lake.\nThe fees for the games are ranging from RM10 to RM15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site is\nalso very windy during the afternoon, providing a perfect place to fly kites,\nhe said, adding that kites and children bicycles are available for rent too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also started\nto breed some rabbits for visitors to see and hold as cuddling the cute rabbits\nis also known as a therapy for relaxation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to\nMichael, the Karanahan View was started with providing accommodation for\noutstation visitors who came to Kota Belud to attend wedding receptions and\nother social functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are\nvisitors coming to the village asking for rooms for overnight stay. This is how\nit\u2019s began way back in 2013. The bamboo-made double storey house has six rooms\nwith three each on each of floors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the visitors\ncontinued to trickled in, he decided to build a pond for fishing and feeding activities,\nbefore the water-related games were added to attract more visitors to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The recreation centre\nwas built on a reclaimed paddy field and overtime some resting huts were\nerected and the landscape was beautified with colourful hanging umbrellas and\nphoto booth depicting the panoramic view of the paddy fields with Mount\nKinabalu as the backdrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, there\nis no cafeteria to serve the visitors but they can order the traditional food\nand drinks upon request from the operator before they come to the site. The visitors\ncan dine at the resting huts while enjoying the afternoon breeze.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The main attraction\nof Karanahan View is the picturesque views of the rice fields with Mount\nKinabalu in the distance, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are promoting\nthe traditional way of planting and harvesting paddies in this place as\nnowadays the younger generation are not interested to do these activities,\nfurthermore, we are using machines to plough the lands now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_135015-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18\" width=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_135015-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_135015-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_135015-768x373.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to\nintroduce to the visitors how the paddy is planted using the basic tools including\nplowing on the muddy fields with water buffaloes as such practice is almost extinct\nnow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_124849-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19\" width=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_124849-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_124849-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191214_124849-768x373.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe want to\npreserve the traditional practice because this is part of the farming culture\nof the local people.
