KOTA KINABALU: Qualified members of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah Chapter has started receiving their direct one-off grant of RM4,000 each today from the Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry.

Its chairman, Lawrence Chin (pix) thanked the Tourism Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin for listening to problems faced by the tourism industry that was badly impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

“On behalf of MATTA Sabah Chapter committees and members, many thanks to Datuk Jafry for his patience, warm hospitality, kindness and integrity despite many difficulties faced by the government,” Chin said.

Jafry has approved the allocation of more than RM2 million direct financial support for eligible tour and travel agencies which is part of the Sabah New Deal for organising MICE activities.

He announced last week that a total of 503 tour and travel agencies in Sabah are eligible for the one-off financial assistance.-HS
