KOTA KINABALU: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin welcomed the decision of the State Security Council (SSC) for allowing scuba diving activities to resume operation.

Thus, the ministry will devise the standard operating procedure (SOP) for diving activities amid the conditional movement control order. It will be submitted to the SSC for approval, Jafry said. (pix)

The decision was made as diving activities are categorized as sports and recreational activities that do not involve physical contact.

Jafry said the tourism operators has been waiting for this good news after several months of closure.

He is confident the various initiatives carried out by the government will be able to revive the ailing Sabah tourism industry which is badly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He hopes all parties would continue to comply with the SOPs as they focus on reactivating the domestic tourism.-HS
